Building Britains Future - 24th Jul, 2009

On Thursday the 23rd of July I was pleased to be able to meet with Gordon Brown and Members of the Cabinet as they arrived in Cardiff to discuss the Building Britains Future agenda.
In Wales, both the UK Government and the Welsh Assembly Government have been working together to deliver social justice and economic recovery.The People of Swansea, like the rest of the UK have faced the biggest economic downturn in living memory and the Government is pledging to do everything possible to get people back into work as quickly as possible. The Jobcentre Plus have recruited extra staff to ensure that real help is provided on the ground to support people from the very first day they are told their jobs are under threat.
Thousands of Welsh businesses have benefited from the HMRC's Time to Pay scheme - deferring tax payments worth more than £83 million. The Enterprise Finance Guarantee Fund scheme has received over £13m worth of eligible applications from 183 Welsh businesses.
Working with the Welsh Assembly Government, we have been able to deliver “Made for Wales” solutions and services, which will benefit the people of Wales
The Building Britain’s Future agenda will strengthen and add to this help, and together, the UK Government and the Welsh Assembly Government will continue to build a more prosperous, stronger and fairer Wales.
On 15 July 2009 at Welsh questions I was able to ask Mr David, Parliamentary Under Secretary for Wales the following;
Mrs. Siân C. James (Swansea, East) (Lab): In these days when finances are so important to the police, we must praise their work at community level. That key role is recognised in the Building Britain’s Future document. In my constituency of Swansea East there are several community organisations, such as J.R. Ground Force in Blaenymaes and Portmead, which do a brilliant job. During the summer recess, will the Minister visit that excellent community project, which works hand in hand with the police in my constituency?
Mr. David: Yes, I am aware of the excellent work that is being done in Swansea by the police, my hon. Friend and local authorities working together to create a strong community partnership to ensure safer communities. I am well aware of the Blaenymaes and Portmead community endeavours. I would be more than happy to visit her constituency and perhaps some of those projects in the summer recess.
Given the Ministers response I am currently organising a vist to the constituency in order to showcase the wonderful work being done by the members of Swansea East. I am very pleased that this will be the 3rd official Ministerial visit we have had in Swansea East since the beginning of the year.
