Sian James MP met the trade Union Usdaw to celebrate new rights for Carers in the Equality Bill.Carers make a valuable contribution to society, and they also have to balance their work in retail with their caring responsibilities at home
Sian James MP commented,
“The Government has done much to help carers who have to or choose to work and I am supporting the Equalities Bill, which offers equal treatment for carers, but more needs to be done. I am calling on the Government to extend the Carers’ Allowance to low-income working carers earning more than the current threshold of £95 per week and I would also welcome a pledge in the National Strategy for Carers that, by 2018, carers will be supported so that they are not forced into financial hardship by their caring role."
