HSE launch new guidlenes on the use of Ultra Viole - 1st May, 2009

Today marks a major leap forward in Sian James MP campaign.
Mrs Sian James MP for Swansea East today welcomed the revised HSE guidelines on the use of UV tanning equipment. (INDG209).Mrs James has long campaigned for tighter controls on the use of coin operated sunbeds by under 18 year olds.
Today Mrs James commented ;
“I always suspected I was knocking on an open door with this campaign, and at last my questions, EDM’S and continual lobbying of Ministers, has born fruit.
I was delighted when I was recently informed by Lord McKenzie (Minster at the Department of Work and Pensions with responsibility for the Health and Safety Executive) that the revised guidelines would be made public today, May 1st.
The revised guidance represent a positive step forward in helping to minimise any health risks that exposure to UV radiation may cause. Today’s announcement marks a significant victory, and will became the platform from which I will continue with my campaign”
The guidelines takes on board the current World Health and Euroskin advice that under 18s should not use sunbeds and the leaflet also advocates that all tanning salons should be manned. The full guidance pack will available directly from the Health and Safety Executive.
