Pre-Payment Meters

Sian James MP has raised concerns on Pre-Payment Meters

Last week, the energy regulator OFGEM highlighted the overcharging of millions of those on pre-payment meters and similar overcharging of 4m electricity customers in areas not connected to the gas main.

Sian James MP said:

"I am very concerned about the high prices paid by people who use prepayment meters.

"I understand that the Government has made it clear to the big six utility companies that it expects them to resolve the overcharging situation.

"If the companies don’t act, the Government has said it will bring forward legislation to prevent unfair pricing difficulties.

"I support these moves to stop excessive charges."
