Imported Clothing

Sian James MP asked a number of Parliamentary Questions on imported clothing

People in Swansea East have been in touch wih local MP, Sian James, in relation to clothing imported from abroad.

While everyone now enjoys access to cheap clothing on the High Street, people have written to the MP, concerned whether items are ethically produced and that children are not involved in the manufacturing process.

Sian James MP said:-

"Constituents in Swansea East wrote to me to express concerns on how ethical the manufacture of clothing products are in developing countries. Many of these enquiries have come following a television programme called "Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts.

"There have been recent reported incidents of well known clothing brands sub-contracting their clothing manufacturing to companies who apparently use child labour.

"I have asked a number of Parliamentary Questions to the Government on this issue, particularly to the Department for International Development and Foreign & Commonwealth office on the situation with child labour and unethical clothing manufacturing in developing countries."
