Child Pornography - 28th May, 2008

Sian James has welcomed the Government announcement on banning cartoon and computer generated pornography showing scenes of child sex abuse.
Commenting on the announcement that drawings and computer-generated images of child sex abuse would be made illegal under proposals announced by Justice Minister Maria Eagle; Sian James MP said:"These images are widely available on the internet and there is an urgent need to tackle the availability of this material.
"Any image of a child being abused, whether in a photograph, cartoon, or computer generated material is completely unacceptable. It is time that the loophole that has existed on computer generated images is closed.
"I have been campaigning to make possession of this material illegal for some time and I am pleased that the Government has announced these proposals."
Mrs James started her campaign after her office was send 'Hentai' cartoon pornography in the post for an organisation in Japan.
The Government has now acknowledged that paedophiles may be circumventing the law by using computer technology to manipulate real photographs or videos of abuse into drawings or cartoons.
