Ysgol Bryntawe Video Conference - 15th May, 2008

Sian James MP became the first Welsh MP to particpate in a video conference with schoolchildren
Sian James MP said:"I was invited by the Parliamentary Education Service to particpate in their pilot video conferencing project.
"This is aimed at allowing students to engage with parliament in a new and exciting way, especially those who may be unable to visit us because of the long distance.
"The pilot project centred around theme of prison reform. The sYsgol Bryntawe students met two costumed actors playing a prison guard and long term prisoner of Pentonville Prison in 1878. They introduced the topic and lead the students into a debate on Victorian prison reform.
"I was asked to round-up the meeting and discuss prisons and my role as MP for Swansea East. I spoke to the pupils from Ysgol Bryntawe on the modern issues to do with prison and sentencing.
"I was absolutely delighted to participate and be the first Welsh MP to participate in this video conferencing event. I thoroughly enjoyed my chat with the pupils and it was clear that they found the session very useful.
"I regularly arrange for visits to school parties and groups. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you want to arrange a visit."
