Gift Aid - 3rd Apr, 2008

Prior to the Budget Sian James made representations to Minister's about the continuation of gift aid at 22%
Sian James MP said:"Constituents wrote to me concerned about the continuation of Gift Aid to charity at 22%.
"The main concerns have been the reduction on Gift Aid charities can claim when the new basic rate of income tax is introduced on April 6
"I have been informed that the Government conducted a consultation with the charitable sector on measures to increase the take up of Gift Aid. Following, this Budget 2008 announced a wide-ranging package of measures in response to the consultation.
"The Government has announced that from 6 April 2008, Gift Aid claims will be paid at a transitional rate of 22% for 3 years. This is worth aroun £300 million to the sector with no increase in administrative burdens for charities in claiming Gift Aid.
"I welcome this response from the Government, I will be writing to my constituents who drew this matter to my attention.
