Department of Work & Pensions Question

Sian James MP asked a question to Minister on Health & Safety at Sunbed salons

Sian James MP said:-

"I asked Ministers to meet with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to discuss under-age use of tanning salons by children and make representations to the HSE on a leaflet which provides advice to customers.

"Unfortunately, this leaflet has not been updated since 1995 and I believe it needs to include warnings to young people on sunbed use.

"The Minister assured me that the HSE is shortly to put out for consultation a revision of its guidance on sunbeds, and that that guidance advises that all tanning salons should be staffed and will use World Health Organisation guidelines that people under 18 years of age should avoid sunbed use.

"This is very good news." added Mrs James.
