Questions on Food Labelling - 11th Feb, 2008

Sian James MP has asked a number of questions to the Government about food labelling.
Sian James MP recevied a complaint from constituents, who complained to the MP about poor food labelling in supermarkets. The constituents explained that they purchased a confectionary product that was manufactured in-house which contained alcohol. The constituent went on to explain that they were allegic to alcohol and that better food labelling was necessary.
Sian James MP said:-
"I wanted to represent the concerns of my constituent to the Government, after they drew this matter to my attention.
"If supermarkets and confectionary manufacturers have got better at labelling for nut allergies, then they should do the same for alcohol. According to the Government, pre-packed confectionary products containing liqeurs would need to indicate the presence of alcohol. Clearly, in this circumstance this did not happen.
"I want to see better labelling for those who have such allergies and to ensure that nobody under the age of 18 should have access to these products."
