Gambling Bans - 9th Aug, 2007

Certain websites are to be banned from advertising in the UK from September
Sian James MP said:-"The Government has announced today that certain websites are to be banned from advertising in the UK from next month as they do not meet standards.
"The Department for Culture, Media and Sport said the aim was to stop unregulated gambling sites trying to attract UK punters.
"About 1,000 sites will be affected. So-called 'white list' sites in the UK, Europe and other areas can advertise on TV, radio and in print media, subject to UK advertising rules.
"White list companies must observe stringent regulations - including measures to stop children gambling, protecting vulnerable people, ensuring games are fair and keeping out organised crime.
"The new rules take effect on September 1 when the Gambling Act comes fully into force."
Culture Secretary, James Purnell MP said:-
"I make no apology for banning adverts for websites operating from places that don't meet our strict standards. Protection is my number one priority."
