MP Meets Rail Bosses

Sian James MP has today met Arriva Trains Wales to discuss train service worries

Sian James MP said that she wanted to meet with Arriva Trains Wales following complaints about overcrowding on west Wales services leaving Cardiff for Swansea and beyond. Mrs James said she was concerned about about the impact on Arriva Trains Wales following the decision to terminate a high speed train service from London to Swansea in Cardiff in December 2006.

Furthermore, there has been a row about overcrowded services recently and the naming of the 17:21 service from Cardiff to Maesteg, as one of the most overcrowded services in the UK.

Mrs James MP said:

""The termination of the 17:15 service in Cardiff causes a 60-minute gap in the intercity service between Cardiff and Swansea when people want to get home from work.

"There have been significant problems following the decision to terminate the train, causing overcrowding on services between 5pm-6pm, westbound from Cardiff. This is effecting train service comfort between Wales' first and second cities and is not accepable.

"There is a lack of capacity peak time between Cardiff and Swansea, and I worry that people have already gone back to using their cars."
