Road Pricing - 20th Feb, 2007

Sian James MP has said she will listen to her constituents views about any potential road pricing schemes.
Sian James MP said:"Following the epetition on the No.10 Website, there has been a great deal of interest and concern about road pricing as a way forward to cut congestion.
"The Government called in 2005 for a national debate on road pricing and has acknowledged the public are currently unconvinced of the need for road pricing. The Labour party's 2005 General Election manifesto gave the commitment that: “we will seek political consensus in tackling congestion, including examining the potential of moving away from the current system of motoring taxation towards a national system of road-pricing.
"No decision have been made by the Government, however I am sure that people recognise that there is indeed no easy answer to tackling congestion and we must investigate all ways of dealing with this problem. I want to listen to people's views and hear what they have to say.
"This is why I have asked my constituents to vote on my website or write to me with their comments on road pricing and hear any other options that they want considered.
"I promise that I will collate all the responses and write to the Secretary of State for Transport with a breakdown of all the comments raised with me."
